NOTE;CHARSET=utf-8:I am the Programme Director for International Development at Responsible Action. I joined the company in March 2009 after 8 years working for the UK's Department for International Development (DFID). I joined DFID after a two year stint in the private sector, where I realised that selling franking machines wasn't the career for me! I realised I was keen to build on an interest kindled during a year's voluntary experience , where I taught in a primary school in rural Kenya. I have followed this interest throughout my career - both at DFID, and through interests outside work (I remain closely involved with a fledgling technical college in Kenya) - and I have been fortunate enough to work on some interesting and relevant issues during the last decade: including leading the team that wrote the UK's AIDS strategy in the developing world, working through international negotiations at UNAIDS, UNODC, UNGASS, EC and the G8 (where I was part of the UK's G8 Gleneagles team in 2005). I have retained a strong interest in African issues, and have been fortunate enough to work for DFID in a number of sub-Saharan countries, as well as living in Sierra Leone and Burundi - where I was the Health & Education Adviser for DFID, centrally involved in Burundi's nascent health SWAp and IHP+ process. My current role at Responsible Action enables me to continue to follow and build on my interests in health in Africa, as well as developing emerging areas of interest around accountability mechanisms.
