Biography:
Leanne was originally trained and qualified as a Dental/Oral Health Therapist and worked in Melbourne, Brisbane, Mt Isa, Cairns and Cape York. Since then she has been a lecturer in rural and Indigenous health at the University of Western Australia, followed by executive management within the Office for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health, Department of Health and Ageing, where she led the development of the Cape York Regional Health Forum and planning for the Cape York Health Reform agenda. She subsequently moved to the role as Chief Transition Officer with the Apunipima Cape York Health Council, planning and designing the Cape York Health Reform project for community controlled health service delivery. She then branched into consultancy work and was engaged by the Ministry of Health in Samoa to assist them in establishing an Allied Health Council to regulate the allied health professions and to determine the mechanisms and requirements for registration. Her most recent projects were evaluating the Hopevale Pelican Community Project and planning and implementing the Rural & Remote Indigenous Suicide project in the Gulf region of Far North Queensland. Leanne has a Graduate Diploma in Professional Communication (Public Relations), specialising in organisational communication and cultural change management and has recently completed her Masters in Public Health (Indigenous Health) through the University of Queensland.
